The 'homesickness while you're at home' hormonal condition needs to be recognised. It is very much D-MER related. But it needs to be acknowledged that the same set of symptoms can strike at any point in time (not just when breastfeeding) and are particularly likely to strike during/after sexual intercourse. Both men and women are sufferers. This is NOT indicative of psychological problems/issues. This is a physiological disorder - A chemical phenomenon! It is suggested on the D-MER website that the set of symptoms are linked to drop in dopamine levels, which are regulated by the pituatury gland. Many sufferers say that an intense thirst accompanies the emotions. This may be due to pituatury gland's role as a regulator of thirst.
Sufferers report that as their dopamine levels suddenly drop they experience a detached feeling. The feeling can be best described as follows: 'If there are a group of people talking in the room, you suddenly feel 'out of loop' or distanced/detached from conversation. Like you are on the outside looking in, but at the same time you feel exposed!'
Typically 'rushes' last from anywhere between 5 seconds to 10 minutes, depending on whether they have been caused by nothing at all, breastfeeding or sexual intercourse.
Here is a reposnse I found online made by a psychologist to a mother who had written to him stating that her child was frequently experiencing this 'homesickness' feeling, whilst at home. His response to her was: Homesickness is actually the child notifying the parent that they are experiencing some emotional distress for reasons they can’t label or identify.' He suggests in his article that when that child had heard the expression homesick used by adults in the past, that child has mistook it for a general expression for 'feeling bad' and hence the child is mistakenly saying she feels 'homesick' and home when actually she means just feeling bad.
I think it is possible that this child was not feeling upset about something, but actually has fluctuating dopamine levels causing her to experience the 'homesickness at home' feeling.
The technical term for post-sexual intercourse dysphoria is post-coital tritesse. There is nothing more than definitions of this term and some very variable testimonials on the internet. There needs to an official website for this and links with D-MER need to be fully investigated and reported.
